KELCEY LEE: PREFACE

I'm Kelcey Hyesoo Lee. The eldest child to two wonderful parents as well as a twin and older sister to my siblings Dylan and Ron. We are all full Korean, and my parents immigrated from Korea to give me and my brothers a better chance at education since the schooling in Korea is notorious for being cutthroat. Though I briefly lived in the Northern United States, I moved to Marietta when I was five. Of course, I was originally disappointed about leaving my favorite playground, but I forgot about it as soon as I tasted the misty air, fragrant with floral smells, in Georgia. I grew up in an area with relatively little Asian, let alone Korean, children around me. As I made friends with people of backgrounds different from my own, knowledge and parts of my heritage started to slip away, especially as I got into sixth grade. It was a shock to me when I entered a high school where I made more friends of Asian descent, who reintroduced me to Korean culture. The dilemma of who I was regarding my ethnicity and childhood background peaked around sophomore year...
